It’s officially fashion season, and while TellusFashion’s designers and models gear up for Fashion Week, it is important to know that certain measures are being taken to ensure all models are healthy and happy.
The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), who nurture and support new talent, have just launched new guidelines to its health initiative for models during New York Fashion Week.
The guidelines will enforce harder that all models taking part in the show are at least 16 years of age and will ensure that all models under the age of 18 will not be permitted to work past midnight on fittings. It is now recommended that models must provide ID
Top modeling agencies – including DNA, Elite, Ford, IMG, Marilyn, New York Models, Next, One, Supreme, Trump, Wilhelmina, Women and Women Direct – have again pledged that they will not send out models under the age of 16 for shows.
The industry is working together to portray a good image for young girls and educate those working with models to spot the signs of an eating disorder.
Diane von Furstenberg (President of CFDA) and Steven Kolb (CEO) said in a statement:
“This season we must continue to celebrate diversity and embrace the message that Health is Beauty.”
The news comes in the same week that it was announced that supermodel Erin O’Connor’s Model Sanctuary during London Fashion Week will not be open this year. Due to changes in sponsorship deals and lack of a permanent base for the project which provides mental and physical support for models it will not run this season for the first time since it launched.
TellusFashion whole-heartedly supports the CFDA’s health initiative and encourages anyone who feels they can help the Model Sanctuary to get in touch with them.
