Best of Berlin: Sebastian Ellrich

Berlin Fashion Week Sebastian Ellrich
Sebastian Ellrich autumn/winter 12

Sebastian Ellrich's collection stood out compared to the many in the Young Designers section at trade show Premium in Berlin.

With a mixture of subtle tones of greys, blacks and whites juxtaposed with vibrant yellow, it definitely made for an eye-catching collection.

Sebastian Ellrich calls itself a “young, cutting-edge label from Berlin that reflects the city’s modernity and urbaneness while emphasizing on excellence in classical tailoring”. All of his designs are made from pure materials, so not only are they high-fashion, they are practical too and their electric yellow cape is fully waterproof.

The fashion show was situated in an off-site location to the rest of Berlin Fashion Week and was nothing like your regular fashion show.

Ellrich presented a truly unique fashion installation called Just One of Those Things where guests were invited to walk through themed rooms to view the installation comprising of live models in the label’s new season collection.

Each room was a blank canvas, with exposed, unpainted walls and flooring. The first room had umbrellas hung from the ceiling, all in matching colours to the collection, and the room was filled with mist. This, itself, was a spectacular sight, but on second glances the model stood in the far corner wearing a stunning, chiffon dress became apparent. Each room contained even more delights including a model on roller-skates, other models dancing around a piano and two models sat at a table as if out for dinner. The final room lead visitors to the catwalk.

It was a delight to get up close and personal with the collection which showed a mixture of tailored suits, for both the men and women, girls in black and yellow patterned flared skirts, and beautiful chiffon dresses.

It was a mixture of casual and smart providing an outfit for any occasion. From the exquisite tailoring to the knitted jumpers; there was even a sports element with hoods on capes. This is only the second season for Sebastian Ellrich, but we’re keeping him on our European radar.
