Scotland-born fashion designer Pam Hogg takes body conscious to a new place with her latest autumn/winter 12 collection. At the Vauxhall Fashion Scout today, the fine line between nudity and clothing was blurred.
While other designers at London Fashion Week focused on wool coats, colourful prints and straight-lined skirts, the yellow-haired cat suit-lover put all her energy on what she does best: Hogg-couture.
Models came down the runway in patched bodysuits in red, silver and black accompanied with oversized bonnets, shaped like megaphones around their head. Matched with patent leather platform shoes and drawn, elongated monobrows, it was the eccentric, in-your-face Pam that we love.
Luckily for Pam, her devoted following is just as daring as her designs. Model and ex-Top Model judge Janice Dickinson and singer Alexandra Burke sat front row, while actress Jaime Winstone appeared on the catwalk jigging away in a Western skirt. With a few Camden kids, club owners, music producers and DJs thrown in between seats, the audience was a diverse representation of London.
With Hogg’s unbreakable relationship to the fantasy-filled world of music and its affinity to the striking rather than conventional, it is not surprising that artists like Rihanna, Kylie Minogue and Alison Mosshart have all worn her clothes. You can never go wrong with a cat suit on stage.
The designer however, showed that she could do more than her trademark pieces. In her collection there were also sexually revealing and highly spartan Scarlett O’Hara ensembles, white see-through pieces with strategically placed black patches, as well as a glitzy sequined gown.
With more than thirty years in the game she still showed her ability to woo the crowd. As the last model left the catwalk, the show was met with standing ovations. And in true London manner the night was still young. As the party carried on in the 1960s It-club Scotch of St James, the designer combined a night of her two true passions in life: fashion and music.
Hogg has been showing as part of the Vauxhall Fashion Scout schedule, usually for the less established, for several seasons helping to create a buzz around the platform for emerging talent.
