(Source: vogue.co.uk)

The rumour mill is running over-time in the fashion world today since it was reported that New York based designer Derek Lam has bid farewell to his 6 year relationship with company Tod's; however neither Tod's nor Derek Lam have yet confirmed this allegation but according to both style.com and vogue.co.uk it seems highly likely that the creative director is ready to move on to pastures new.

Lam's career kicked off in 2003 with an astounding and somewhat revolutionary show which stormed New York fashion week which later led to the designer being approached by the label Tod to create a capsule collection in 2005. This collection then led him to the position of creative designer in 2006.

During his time at the company, Derek Lam has managed to pull sales up for the brand, boasting an impressive 24% rise in profit sales last summer according to WWD.

According to vogue.co.uk, Lam is moving forward onto bigger things; pushing his creative talent further.

We're are sitting on the edge of our seats at TellusFashion to hear more about Derek Lam's next steps in the fashion world.

Independent Fashion

Heather Mhari McGreevy

The fashion high-street in the UK is fantastic; however there is nothing I love more than finding one off pieces and unique garments that won't have been replicated hundreds of times - I have the same fear every girl gets after purchasing the likes of Topshop clothes, that a girl in a bar or walking down the street will be wearing the same thing.

Thankfully, with the rise of sites like our very own - giving you the opportunity to spot great designers - we are now able to find pieces that will be unique and more often than not, a little more edgy and fashion forward than your regular high-street buys.

I recently discovered a fantastic Glasgow based 'boutique' called "Once Upon a Time Vintage". The fashion label is run by two lovely sisters, Charlotte and Hannah Booth, from the Highlands in Scotland. The brand is an eclectic mix of vintage and contemporary fashion with some custom made pieces produced by the two girls themselves.

I was lucky enough to get a hold of one of their tye-dye vests a few weeks back and I've not had it off since! I was able to choose my own colours and I had fantastic one to one chats with the girls to make sure it was just right! If you are loving the grunge look this AW and find yourself trawling through pages of tumblrs like dirtylittlestylewhoree then this is definitely the independent brand for you - check out my amazing vest below (albeit - badly modelled but a very cool tee nonetheless!) and don't forget to check out Once Upon a Time Vintage here too!

Marni for H & M

Heather Mhari McGreevy

H & M shoppers have barely left the high street chain with their Versace goods in hand, yet H & M have just this morning released exciting information about their next collaboration with designer Marni.

Marni is an Italian label created by designer Consuelo Castiglioni and is renowned for its cool, hipster aesthetic which draws fashionistas and fashionmistas in every season with its quirky prints and pops of colour seen in virtually every collection.

It is believed that the collection for H & M will embody all of the common Marni characteristics previously described, and it is also said that Marni will be bringing in garments for both men and women to the value retailer next year. As well as womens and menswear, we are likely to see statement jewellery pieces with a 'homespun feel' alongside Marni's trademark conical hats.

A statement from Marni, gives us a better understanding of the overall goal for the collection, saying "I wanted to create a true Marni wardrobe by revisiting all our favourite pieces in signature fabrics and prints. As always, I love juxtaposing prints and colors, mixing modern tribal with Bauhaus graphic adding sporty utilitarian elements".

You won't have long to wait until the next designer collection with the brand is released next Spring/Summer with the planned release date of March 8th 2012. Exciting!

Oh H & M, you are getting cooler by the minute!

Another Fashion Ban

Heather Mhari McGreevy

As you may have already heard, we recently saw the ban of a advertorial for Marc Jacob's fragrance Oh! Lola. The advert has been pulled by the Advertising Standards Agency due to the 'sexually provocative' nature of the advert which featured young actress Dakota Fanning. It is believed that although the actress come model, is age seventeen, she appears to be much younger and the ASA branded the advert as sexualising children through the placement of the perfume bottle in the advert.

However, it seems that Dakota is not the only young, female muse to be pulled out of the limelight. According to Vogue.co.uk, actress Hailee Steinfeld - who until recently was the face of Prada's diffusion line Miu Miu - has been causing the ASA more distress. It was suggested by the agency that in the brand's Autumn/ Winter 2011 campaign was 'irresponsible' and 'showed a child in a hazardous or dangerous situation'. Of course, the agency is referring to one particular image of the young girl sitting on the edge of a railway line.

Miu Miu shared their comments about the situation and expressed that the advert was in no way, promoting dangerous behaviour, it was simply portraying the young actress resting after a hot day 'filming' on an abandoned track (pictured below).

The banned Miu Miu Ad, Source Elleuk.com

Miu Miu added that the ad was "part of a serious, high-fashion campaign aimed at adult women and "was placed only in adult, high-fashion magazines".

What is your opinion on both of the adverts placed by these high profile fashion brands? Is it entirely necessary to ban the adverts or is the ASA taking matters a little too seriously? Tellus your thoughts below.

Scandinavian fashion: a hidden gem

Heather Mhari McGreevy

I am currently obsessed right now, with Scandinavian fashion. It's gone unnoticed over the years and now it's time for Tellusfashion to show you its worth. With a whole host of fantastic high-street brands, designer fashion and some of the most stylish bloggers you will ever see, Scandinavian fashion has much more to offer than you might have realised.

One key component of Scandinavian fashion design, whether it's coming from Norway, Sweden or Denmark, is that it's all about minimalism and functionality. This is common right across any type of fashion brand you will see in the three kingdoms, regardless of price point. Scandinavian fashion provides us with aesthetically pleasing, structural garmets which are normally of good quality fabric.

Some of the brands that come from the northern region of Europe are a major part of the current fashion offering available to us and you probably hadn't even realised that's where they originate until now. Popular chains such as H & M and its diffusion brand COS are both Swedish companies, alongside Acne and denim brand Cheap Monday.

Brands that are starting to make their way into our fashion radar, include Whyred, Won Hundred and Carin Wester - all of which are available to buy in Urban Outfitters; and Monki which has just recently opened its first store in London.

As well as fashion brands, the blogging world has noticed some of the most chic Scandinavian fashion bloggers with an incredible aptitude for style. A few personal favourites of mine include Maja Ravn, a stunning girl with enviable fashion sense - she's pretty much Denmark's answer to Tavi Gevinson; Ulrikkelund.com is another of my favourites, and even though I can't understand a word of it, the blog still provides a whole load of fashion candy for the eye; if street style is more of your fashion blog thing then take a look at thelocals.dk - one of the best street style blogs capturing the fashion savvy on the streets of Denmark.

Want to get the Scandinavian look? Check out our minimalist outfit selections from two of Scandinavia's top brands, Monki and Won Hundred.

Best Dressed Sisters

Heather Mhari McGreevy

US vogue has named Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, 'best dressed siblings' in their 2011 best dressed issue. The twins are described as being "legitimate fashion forces" by the magazine because of their instinctual personal style and their success from fashion labels Elizabeth and James and The Row.

The Olsen twins are renowned for the minimalist aesthetic and layering technique in regards to their personal style, both of which are able to put their own unique spin on the look without looking like a typical pair of identical twins.

The thing that makes this fashion pair more credible is that fact they take risks and are subject to making the odd fashion no-no on occasion, showing that they are choosing their looks on their own and not following the route like many other celebrities by hiring the help of a stylist to make them look amazing every single time. They are proving that personal style means taking risks and trying new things that might not always be right in retrospective.

Both girls have said that their major fashion influences come from renowned designers themselves; Yohji Yamamoto, Christian Lacroix and Calvin Klein. It is clear to the fashion eye that these are indeed key ingredients to creating their unique style.

In an interview with STYLE.com, Mary-Kate explains that their style has progressed as they themselves have grown, moving away from that laid back Californian look to a more chic New York style after their bold move to the fashion forward city. The Olsens' modestly evaluated the style growth in terms of their famous use of layering, agreeing that it was the extreme change of climate encountered after their move and stated: "How could you not put on 20 thing when you're going from Los Angeles to [New York] walking through the snow? However, I know as well as you that layering can look unsightly unless you have the creativity and style to make it look fantastic, so they have no reason to be modest about their styling.

Other nominees in the category included Beyoncé and Solange Knowles, the adorable Elle and Dakota Fanning, models Poppy and Cara Delevigne, as well as models Lily and Ruby Alderidge and who by my own personal opinion, undeservedly got style credibility in this category, the Duchess of Cambridge and her sister Pippa Middleton.

What do you make of the Olsen Twins? Do you agree they deserved the win? Who else would you have put in the running? Tellus below!

Heather Mhari McGreevy

and his name is Pudsey Bear. That's right, you heard us correctly. Pudsey Bear is showing us how it's done in the fashion world with his brand new image, in fact make that images.

The designer Pudsey collection was launched yesterday (7th November) with a number of established London designers involved, including the likes of Mulberry, Erdem, Giles and Liberty to name but a few.

Pudsey is a fashion innovator in his own right, kitted out with the latest SS12 prints - way ahead of the fashion pack, working a variation of florals, metallics and leathers. He is the envy of the fashion world!

Kate Middleton, style icon?

Heather Mhari McGreevy

Alongside some obvious style contenders, Alexa Chung and Kate Moss, it seems that the Duchess of Cambridge has also been put down as an entry to Harpers Bazaar's fashion poll for Britains best dressed woman.

I can't help but doubt this choice - just like I doubted Emma Watson and her style icon title about a year ago - but shouldn't a style icon be someone who doesn't get dressed by a stylist on most public occasions? A style icon to me, is someone like Alexa Chung or going back several years to the likes of Marianne Faithful. It should be someone who has a natural flair for style and who breaks the mould and I hate to say it but I don't see how Kate fits in there.

However, I think that her wedding dress does deserve some recognition in the style rankings. It was revolutionary in terms of Royal Wedding history and represented our modern day society well but with elegance and beauty, much like the bride herself. So maybe that should be enough to give her the 'style icon' title.

The Iconic Wedding Dress - Is this enough?

Source: katemiddletonfan.com

Personally, I think there needs to be more depth than that for her to deservedly get the title - I see most of her other outfits as pretty plain and conventional and not particularly stylish but just simply well put together. However, maybe I'm wrong and my idea of a style icon is too unaccessible for people - tellus your thoughts on this, do you think Kate deserves to be crowned style icon? Tellus why!

Is her style ground-breaking?
