Best friends since childhood, Meher Mirchandani and Riddhima Whabi played together and shared secrets like other little girls. They also shared a dream– to play dress-up forever. Both were encouraged and influenced to realize their dream at home, by close family and friends. Riddhima designed clothes for her dolls, and was fascinated by the work of her aunt, also a fashion designer. Meher drew inspiration from her father, who was one of the first garment entrepreneurs in Jebel Ali-Dubai U.A.E.
Deciding to take her interest to the next level, Meher studied for a Bachelors degree in Fashion Design and Marketing at the American University in Dubai, and then graduated from the American Intercontinental University in London. In 2002, after presenting an award-winning graduating collection called Fastenings inspired by various furniture fastenings, Meher returned to Dubai.
Riddhima pursued an intensive four-year Fashion Design and Marketing program at the American University in Dubai. As prize-winner of the 'Swarovski Best Young Fashion Designer Award' at The Bride Show 2001, Riddhima made her mark as a successful fashion designer early.
After the success of their ready-to-wear line Affascinare, Meher and Riddhima felt that their evolved sensibilities would be better reflected under a new brand, and so M&R was born. Combining an ethnic influence with a western essence, the brand creates clothes that offer individuality and charm to the wearer all around the world.
